NATURAL DISASTER & RECOVERY EFFORTS

The pain from the devastating floods in Kerala from 2018 had not even healed when nature’s fury got unleashed to cause havoc again in 2019. Many people lost their lives, death tolls went up even further, some got trapped under debris & were reported missing and millions have had to move to relief camps for shelter and safety.

It is during this extreme situation in Kerala that we got to know about Sreeja, a widow & a sole low wage income earner from Panamaram in Wayanad who has two daughters and an elderly mother to care for. She was desperately looking to get some help to make a shelter for her family of four in her 8 cents of land.

And it is with your generous support, that we at Ozindcare were able to build a house and provide shelter and safety to Sreeja and her family. This was actioned as part of the ‘Flood recovery initiative’ from last year and it was successfully completed as planned in 2019.

SUPPORT TO RAILWAY CONTRACT LABOURERS

A large group of 68 Railway contract labourers, predominantly women,

who work at the Kozhikode Railway Station as cleaners lost their jobs after

23rd March 2020 due to the COVID-19 Lock down.

Subsequently their contracts also ended on the 31st of March. A renewal of employment contracts in current circumstances looked highly unlikely.

To their call for help, a relief amount of Rs.2000 to each of the 68 workers was provided.
